An authentic reproduction of an 1858 playing card deck by Samuel Hart & Co. with full-length, single-ended court figures, square corners and an unusual pictorial back design featuring a huntress peering across the landscape. The deck includes 53 cards and two information cards. The ace of spades includes the company's insignia and therefore a more conventional plain ace of spades in also included for those who find the original confusing  2.5” x 3.5”.

Samuel Hart holds an important position in the history of American playing card. He was responsible for a number of important firsts, all of which would be come common by the turn of the century. These included double-ended face cards, rounded corners, and satin finishes. He was not the first one come up with these ideas, or to have invented them. But he was the first to commercially produce them, and put them in widespread circulation. Although for many years, double-ended face cards would remain a novelty in America, and single ended court cards as in the 1858 deck above remained the ones in most widespread use
